James M. Paulius Metaproject collection
Scope and Contents
The James M. Paulius Metaproject collection includes notes, preliminary drawings, 1/4-scale and full-size models, and a full-sized prototype, and final to market product named Blockitecture.
The toy is currently being produced by the company Areaware and has been produced in a number of thematic sets. These sets are included in the collection.
Also included in the collection is a scupture created by Paulius on 3 May 2018 in the Wallace Library as part of the ImagineRIT festival. The sculpture is made out of numerous sets of Blockitecture components which were hot-glued together over the course of the day. The sculpture is mounted on MDF board and is currently on display in the RIT Archives reading room.

Biographical / Historical
The Metaproject competition was developed by the educator Josh Owen in partnership with an industry sponsor to encourage students to produce design that "is semantically correct, and pragmatically understandable, but also visually powerful, intellectually elegant and timeless." In the case of Metaproject 03, in collaboration with Areaware, the students were given the task of using wood as a primary material to define the meaning of Universal Toy.
