Biographical / Historical
The Division of Career Education at the Rochester Institute of Technology was established in 1978 to help students become aware of and prepare for the realities of their chosen careers. The division accomplished this through four basic program activities: Career and Academic Advisement, Cooperative and Experiential Education, Career Education Research, and Central Placement Services. The Career Decision Program was created by the division for students who had tentatively made their choice of career paths, and whose priorities included a reassessment of career direction. Students accepted into the program received intensive career/academic advisement, the opportunity to sample coursework across as many as 3 majors, and participated in a 3-credit career exploration laboratory. Other services offered by the division included Central Placement Services and the College Restoration program. Central Placement Services provided students with a variety of resources to aid in seeking employers for part time, summer, co-op, or permanent employment. The division worked with RIT’s Learning Development Center to utilize the College Restoration program, an ideal program for students struggling after a suspension or leave of absence.
