Scope and Contents

RIT Strategic Planning records of 1994-2004, consist of documents collected by a member of the Strategic Planning Committee including background and reference documents, letters, office memos, task forces preliminary and final reports, presentation materials, and feedback from students, faculty, and staff.

The collection also contains documents pertaining to Agenda for Action and Learning and Careers 2004. Background and reference documents are dated from 1980 to 1994 while the rest of the materials are dated from 1993 to 1998. Also included are two CD/DVDs, one audio cassette tape, and one U-Matic tape.

Biographical / Historical

In September 1992 through September 1994, President Albert J. Simone emphasized the importance of higher education and Rochester Institute of Technology's role in becoming the leader in higher education. Simone and several selected people formed the Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Faculty and staff engaged in Institute-wide planning to gather information in order to move the school forward. The committee engaged four hundred students, faculty, and staff to participate on one of ten task forces.

During this time, participants across the Institute worked together to develop RIT’s mission and vision statements and goals. They also gathered feedback from students, faculty, and staff; and incorporated the responses into a ten year strategic plan - Learning and Careers 2004: The Strategic Plan for the Rochester Institute of Technology, which listed the mission and vision statements and nine goals for the Institution through 2004.
