The R. Roger Remington video collection contains 13 U-matic tapes created by or relating to R. Roger Remington, retired RIT professor and Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design. Additional scope and content information can be found in the Contents List section of this finding aid.

Biographical Note

R. Roger Remington is the Vignelli Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Design and former professor in the College of Art and Design at RIT.

Remington grew up in Glens Falls, New York and graduated from RIT in 1958 from the School of Art and Design. He attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and went on to work in packaging design and design instruction. Remington returned to RIT as a faculty member and worked on the branding program for RIT.

For nearly six decades, Remington made a significant impact on RIT’s College of Art and Design. He has been involved in research and preservation of the history of graphic design. Remington was instrumental in establishing both the Cary Graphic Arts Collection and the Vignelli Center for Design Studies at RIT. He retired in 2019 as RIT’s longest-serving faculty member.

As of 2024, Remington continues to lecture, curate exhibitions, and write books about design history.
