Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials collected by Linda Crane as apart of the 1977 BTP summer ASL interpreter training program. Lamitola gives context for the donation in an email dated 29 June, 2017: "I was an instructor for the program but I was also a student in 1977. The binder that I donated was Student binder for the first year of the Basic Interpreter Training Program. The years before had a different name and the program, I believe, was designed differently as well. So [y]ou have the Student manual for BITP ’77 [.]"

These materials include program schedules, notes, readings, handouts, the official booklet for the class, Crane's nametag, and the testing evaluations she recieved. Some of these papers contain detailed notes. The program included class segments set aside for legal interpreting, educational interpreting, and psychology/psychiatry interpreting, providing an example of how these specialized types of communications were taught to ASL interpreters in 1977 at NTID.

Biographical / Historical

Linda Lamitola is from Rochester, NY, and was a student at NTID in 1977. She went on to become a liason interpreter for NTID Personal Services circa 1982 and since has continued her career in ASL interpreting elsewhere.

Overview

Materials from Linda (Crane) Lamitola documenting her participation in the first BTP summer interpreting training program in 1977. BTP was a summer training session for interpreters hosted by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. The collection contains worksheets, notes, handouts, evaluations, and other curricular materials.
