Scope and Contents

The Steve Baldwin collection contains his resume, a list of articles authored by Baldwin, a list of film and television work, a list of plays written by Baldwin, educational videos and documentaries produced by Baldwin, and articles about Mr. Baldwin. Also included is a copy of volume 97 of The Deaf Texan from 2012 in which Baldwin discusses Erastus "Deaf" Smith, and a copy of volume 99, issue 3 of The Deaf Texan which focuses on Gertrude Scott Galloway in which Baldwin has published material. Added later is a copy of "The Good Peddler" script and "A Birthday Party" script.

Biographical / Historical

Stephen Charles Baldwin (1944- ) graduated from Gallaudet University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History. From there he continued on to obtain his Master of Arts in Special Education from California State University at Northridge in 1974 and his Ph.D. in Theatre History, Theory and Criticism in 1989 from the University of Texas at Austin. For 39 years he taught social studies primarily at state schools for the deaf, including 17 years at Texas School for the Deaf.

A lifelong writer, Baldwin authored one major theatre history book, 19 produced community plays, 110 cable interview scripts, 17 years of newsletter editing, writing and photographing, 3 major documentaries, 6 educational videos and over 75 articles covering an eclectic array of topics for about 16 publications.

In 2010 he was awarded the Newsletter of the Year by the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities. The National Association of the Deaf gave Baldwin the Robert Greenmum Leadership Award in 2008 and his 14-page cover story about the late Dr. Gertie Galloway in the 2014 summer issue of The Deaf Texan received national accolades.
