Biographical / Historical

The RIT Libraries Art Purchase Prize program has awarded purchase prizes to graduate students of the School of Art and the School of Design annually since 1972. Works are purchased for the permament collection from MFA thesis exhibits. The selection committee complement for the award has changed over the years and now includes the Art and Photography Librarian and the RIT Archivist. The goal of the program is twofold: to select the best work and to capture the diversity of work made by RIT students in the programs.

Overview

Arrangement

Works are arranged individually in boxes and on shelves. Some are on display throughout the Wallace Memorial Library building.

Physical Location

Items in the collection are displayed throughout The Wallace Center and stored in many locations within RIT Archive Collections. See the finding aid for the most current locations.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Pieces are purchased for the collection each year, usually during Spring semester.

Accruals

Works are purchased from MFA thesis exhibitions and added to the collection each year.
