Scope and Contents

Robert Macon's renderings of RIT Henrietta campus buildings includes both original artwork and reproductions. The collection contains two watercolor paintings of building exteriors (1989). These are reproduced in color photographs as well. Two pencil drawings depict the RIT chapel interior and the quarter-mile (1982) and are also reproduced in two black and white copies. Later additions include two color pencil drawings of the campus from 1986 and 1989 as well as two color photographs of watercolors of the campus from 1987.

Biographical / Historical

Robert Macon (1934-2002) was a founding partner of Macon Chaintreuil Jensen Stark Architects LLP, an architectural firm founded in Rochester, N.Y., now CSJ Architects with offices in Rochester and Buffalo, New York. The firm designed 8 buildings on the RIT Henrietta campus: Kilian J. and Caroline F. Schmitt Interfaith Center, E. Philip Saunders College of Business, the Lowenthal Memorial Building, Wallace Library addition, and the Bausch and Lomb Center.

Robert Macon is remembered as a gifted designer and leader in the architectural community, and for his civic contributions and transformative projects that spanned a thirty year career. He was a member of the Rochester City Planning Commission, Rochester Preservation Board, Monroe County Housing Council, and the National Rochester Socity of RIT. In addition he held leadership roles on the Rochester Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Downtown Development Corporation.
