Biographical / Historical

The Liberty Hill Breakfast Series is an invitation-only lecture series hosted and moderated by the RIT President and held at the President's home, "Liberty Hill." The series, started by RIT President Albert Simone in 1992, was designed to build a sense of community through dialogue with members of RIT and greater Rochester communities.

Liberty Hill, or Liberty Hill Farm as it was originally called, was constructed in 1839 by the Hanks family. The family maintained the land until 1919 when it was sold to Frank W. Lovejoy Sr. of Eastman Kodak. Liberty Hill stayed in the Lovejoy family until 1979 when it was donated to RIT by Lovejoy’s son, Frank Lovejoy Jr., and his wife Lynn Lovejoy, in honor of the university’s 150 anniversary. Since RIT’s seventh president Dr. M. Richard Rose and his wife first took up residence at Liberty Hill, the property has been referred to as the RIT president’s house.

Overview

This collection of records includes invitations, programs, speech outlines, guest lists, correspondence, and other materials relating to the Liberty Hill Breakfast Series (LHBS) since its inception in 1992, through to 2013. The LHBS is an invitation-only lecture series started by RIT President Albert J. Simone and continued by RIT President William Destler. The lectures were held at the RIT President's House, Liberty Hill located on Calkins Rd. in Pittsford, N.Y.
