Harold Kentner collection
Scope and Contents
Harold Kentner collection consists of documentation of the Extended Services Division of RIT's Evening School from 1959-1988; personal and biographical information about Mr. Kentner which includes photographs and newsclippings; his work at RIT; committees and organizations he served on in the Rochester area; and his involvement in the National University Extension Association from 1968-1980, as well as some NTID related materials.

Biographical / Historical
Harold M. Kentner began working at RIT in 1941, teaching classes in Human Relations, Industrial Management, Leadership and Personnel Administration, among others. As Director and Assistant Dean of the Extended Services Division of the Evening College and in the College of Continuing Education, he helped develop many programs specifically in the Evening Services Division.
He served as Chairman of Region II for the National University Extension Association (NUEA). He volunteered as the president or vice president for many associations, corporations, and societies in his field. His community outreach included serving as Chairman of the Rochester Mental Health Chapter of the New York State Association of Mental Health, conducting seminars, presentations, and classes for the urban population.
Harold Kentner was married to Katherine Nowack Kentner and they had three daughters, Jeanne K. Clarke, Louise K. Smith, and Maryann K. Newman. Before coming to RIT, Mr. Kentner held positions in personnel administration with the State Labor Department, General Motors, Ritter Company, annd Hickok Manufacturing Co.
Mr. Kentner was asked by President Mark Ellingson to write the proposal to bring the National Technical Institute for the Deaf to RIT.

Overview
This collection contains materials related to Harold Kentner’s career with the College of Continuing Education (CCE) and RIT's Evening School; the introduction and development of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf; and the community outreach of Assistant Dean of the Extended Services Division of CCE at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Included are annual reports, correspondence, photographs, RIT publications and clippings relating to these subjects.
