Scope and Contents

The Fred W. Smith biographical files on the RIT Board of Trustees contain various types of documents related to approximately 156 board members. Most files contain correspondence, articles, clippings, and relevant forms such as conflict of interest statements. The collection also contains a file of conflict of interest statements and paperwork from the FIC Task Force and Committee on Partnering. Although some material in the collection dates as early as 1935, most of the materials in the files are from 1970-2000.

The collection also contains a series of materials related to the Board of Trustees annual meeting held in July 2001. The meeting took place July 12th and 13th in Washington, D.C. The collection includes planning materials, as well as travel arrangements, meeting handouts, financial documents, and miscellaneous items.

Historical Information: RIT Board of Trustees

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) can trace its origins to the founding of the Rochester Athenaeum in 1829. According to the Athenaeum's 1830 charter, the Board of Directors was to contain 17 members with the original directors being:

Biographical materials for over 150 members of the Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) Board of Trustees. Most of the board members represented in the collection served during the 1980s and 1990s. The collection also includes resources from the board's annual conference held during July 2001.

Arrangement

Materials in the collection are arranged according to original order. Within each box, files are arranged loosely in alphabetical order. The series of annual meeting materials is housed in the second box.
