Scope and Contents

Convocation for New Students and Families is the official opening of the academic year at Rochestser Institute of Technology. This ceremony formally welcomes students to the academic community. This collection consists of VHS videotapes of convocations in 1999-2003, and one DVD for 2004.

Guest speaker in 2000 was Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and in 2004 Dr. Keith Jenkins gave the keynote address.

Biographical / Historical

New students at RIT aren’t likely to ever forget their first full day on campus as they parade in the RIT Tiger Walk. Faculty and staff, dressed in RIT garb and armed with posters and noisemakers, will line the walkway leading to the Gordon Field House and Activities Center offering newcomers a rousing welcome as they arrive for New Student Convocation.

Convocation for New Students and Families is the official opening of the academic year. This ceremony formally welcomes students to the academic community. The program includes remarks by President William Destler, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jeremy Haefner, senior vice president for Student Affairs , Dr. Sandra Johnson, the Student Orientation Coordinators, the Student Government president, and a keynote address.
