Scope and Contents

Records from and about RIT’s College of Science. The collection includes correspondence from 1963-1997, course offerings for mini courses in science and math from 1978-1990, policies and procedures manuals from 1971 and 1973, newspaper clippings from various years, course manual for Sample Size Determination from 1980, course syllabi for Writing Laboratory Reports as well as Science and Human Values, promotional materials from 1952-1990's, news releases for the AMCS' Biennial Conference on Chemical Education from 1980 as well as the Ultrasound Machine from 1992 and other various materials related to the college. The VHS tape is a NBC Dateline show called "Failing in Fairness, Pt. 2" from Feb. 8, 1994.

Biographical / Historical

While courses in science have been offered at RIT since 1888, the College of Science was established in 1963, developing from the College of Applied Science. Dr. Ralph Van Peursem was its first dean. Current areas of study include Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Computational Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Biology, Biotechnology and Molecular Bioscience, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics and Imaging Science.
