Scope and Contents

The Nantka collection of RAMI textbooks consists of textbooks used in the Publishing and Printing, and Retailiing programs by the donors in the 1950s. The textbooks and other printing related ephemera are as follows:

  • Laboratory Swatch Book for Textile Fabrics, part 1 by Isabel B. Wingate


  • Elements of Economics with Post-War Problems by Richard Feier


  • Economic Problems and Cases by Calvin C. Thomason


  • Study Techniques by Hazel Pope Howlan


  • Thomas Nantka's Senior Project titled "Techmila '50: It's Planning, Design and Layout"

    Contract with Henderson-Mosher Inc. to print and bind the 1949 Techmila; Contract with William J. Keller, Inc. to print and bind the 1950 Techmila; and Techmila Business Manager's 1950 Annual Report.

    14" x 11" black-and-white photograph identified only as "Techmila '50, featuring a group of male and female college students sitting around a fire in a fireplace.

    Biographical / Historical

    Wilma and Thomas Nantka met while they were both students at Rochester Institute of Technology during the 1949-1950 academic year. Thomas Nantka was a senior majoring inPublishing and Printing, as well as the Editor-in-Chief of Techmila. Wilma Nantka (Tessmann) was a freshman majoring in Retailing. They married in 1953 and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2013. This collection consists of the textbooks they saved from their time at RIT.
    The couple was featured in a series called "Tiger Love" in the July 22, 2013 issue of RIT University News.
