Biographical / Historical

The first proposal for a recreational, intramural, athletic and campus event facility and fields was submitted in 1998 by Frank R. Lamas, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. The objectives were to provide improved quality and availability of recreational fields for RIT, to provide improved athletic fields and to provide a facility that would accommodate recreational, intercollegiate, athletic, and large campus and/or community events. The report supported the need for RIT to undertake the proposed project in order to meet existing and future campus needs.

The actual groundbreaking for the Center took place on September 25, 2002, and the official dedication was celebrated on September 10, 2004. The facility was named after major benefactors, the Lucius Robert Gordon family.
