Scope and Contents

The Mary Sullivan papers primarily contain files from the office of Dr. Sullivan. The papers document her career and activities she was involved in while at RIT. In particular are records kept while serving as Dean of the College of General Studies/Liberal Arts, and as professor of language and literature program. There are meeting minutes of the Dean's Council in the 1980's and Vice President/Deans meetings. There are minutes of the Faculty Council and Academic Governance during the 1990's. There is also comprehensive records of the RIT/CIA Review Panel from 1991 on which Mary served as the Chair. These records remain restricted by the Institute.

This collection is open to researchers, although permission must be granted by the President of RIT to view the RIT/CIA Review Panel records.

Biographical / Historical

In 1978, Dr. Mary Sullivan was appointed Dean of the College of General Studies. The College of General Studies was renamed the College of Liberal Arts in 1982. Dean Mary Sullivan resigned to return to teaching language and literature in 1987.

In 1995-96, Mary Sullivan was chosen to receive the Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching. She chaired the Academic Senate and served on the Policy Council and Faculty Council and numerous institute committees.

Sullivan retired in 2002 after 33 years of service. In 2005, Sullivan was the recipient of the RITirees Award which honors exemplary service.

Overview

The Mary Sullivan papers consists of two Accessions 2008:040 and 2008:046 deposited by Mary Sullivan in 2008. The papers cover committees Ms. Sullivan served on, papers and records generated when she served as Dean of the College of General Studies/College of Liberal Arts and as head of the RIT/CIA Review panel between 1971-1998.
