Scope and Contents

The RIT University News slide collection contains photographs of RIT community life on the downtown Rochester and Henrietta campuses, academics, buildings, student groups, student activities, events and portraits. These photographs have been taken by many university photographers over several decades. The RIT Archives has organized them and are in the process of digitizing the entire collection for improved future access.

There are approximately 80 binder boxes of slides dating from circa 1960 until 2005.

Overview

A collection of over 80 binder-boxes of slides taken by University photographers over a span of many decades documenting faculty and staff, academics, buildings and student life.

Arrangement

Slides are arranged into broad subject areas.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The slides were deposited in the RIT Archives at various times by university photographers.

Accruals

The collection of slides is finite, although documentation by RIT photographers continues in other formats such as CD's, negatives, prints, and digital files.

Physical Description

Slides are genreally in sheets of 20. Each box generally contains anywhere from 13 to 35 sheets.

General

University News slide collection is currently in the process of being digitized by the RIT Archive Collections. Students are scanning the slides, creating metadata and uploading digital files into the Cumulus database which is where they can be stored and accessed by staff. There is currently no public interface for viewing of these images; but one can make a request for an image.

Finding aid created by Jody Sidlauskas in November 2013. The RIT University news slide collection is currently being digitized creating high resolution tifs and metadata for each in the Archives Cumulus database .
