Scope and Contents

The RIT Alumni Association Class Reunion collection contains a wide variety of records related to alumni and the activities performed during class reunions throughout the years. A large portion of this collection consists of correspondence and invitations. Also included are issues of Psimar from the classes of 1943 and 1944, that contain newspaper clippings and articles providing information about events happening during that year. Included as well are "Facts About Me" booklets that give details about some alumni's lives since they graduated from RIT.

Biographical / Historical

The Rochester Institute of Technology Alumni Association was formed in 1912. Osbourne F. Gurney, a 1903 Mechanical Engineering graduate, was elected as the first president. During the 1920's alumni began to return to watch sporting events and attend parties hosted by sororities and fraternities. The first official class reunion took place in 1958, commemorating the 50th year since the Class of 1908 had graduated. Reunions continued and were very successful.

Today, the Alumni Association continues to engage and celebrate the over 100,000 RIT alumni. Much of this acknowledgement is now done during Brick City Homecoming held each year in October. Alumni are encouraged to interact and reunion activities were started for classes, athletics, Greeks, student clubs, and more.
