Scope and Contents
Newspaper Headlines book for Newspaper Design class was produced primarily to be used as a teaching aid for students in Newspaper Design in the School of Printing at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Students interested in learning the techniques of writing headlines for publications other than newspapers would also find the material helpful.
RIT School of Printing professor W. Frederick Craig authored the publication. This 42 page book includes pages of newspaper headline examples throughout history. It explains the functions of headlines, capitalization styles, appropriate headline type faces, positioning, and writing and creating attractive headlines.

Biographical / Historical
Mr. Craig was a faculty member in the School of Printing at Rochester Institute of Technology for 31 years and was inducted into the West Virginia Printing Hall of Fame in 1997. He published seven books about the history of his hometown, beginning with "Gleaned From The Hills" to most recently "Once Upon A Tuesday," consisting of articles and editorials from "The Reedy News" that was owned by his father Fred E. Craig, and published every Tuesday for 40 years in West Virginia. Mr. Craig served in the U.S. Navy and was a printer aboard the USS Cascade in the Pacific during World War II. He died in 2008.
