Russ Firman collection on RIT men's hockey

Dr. Russell Firman, MD, FACEP has worked in clinical and administrative positions at Cortland Regional Medical Center (CRMC) full time since 1999. He was the first emergency physician hired by EMP to staff the emergency department at CRMC.

Dr. Firman holds a bachelor's degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and a doctorate in medicine from The State University of New York at Syracuse Health Sciences Centers College of Medicine. He attended RIT from 1983-1987 and played on the men's hockey team during that time. Dr. Firman is married to his high school sweetheart; he and his wife have four children.

In 2011, Russ donated this collection to the RIT Archives for an exhibition on RIT Men's Hockey, and at that time he wrote saying “Every day I go to work as the Chief of Emergency Services at Cortland Regional Medical Center I think about my playing days at RIT. I have so many other memories but they are only for my enjoyment as I go through my day taking care of patients. I really need them to help me get through tough situations. I learned so much from the balance of school and sports and the friendships and memories. I use these to balance my career as an emergency physician now with all the difficulties I face in treating very sick people. I use the experiences to help me find compassion and to have patience in the stresses of what I do. A day doesn't go by when i think of my experience at RIT and the opportunities it gave me to be so successful. "
