In 1996, as part of the freshman Orientation program, a group interactive activity was held on the athletic fields. Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) students, faculty, staff and alumni attempted to break a Guinness world record for the longest fire bucket brigade. The RIT bucket brigade records document this event in 1996 and 1997. Included are correspondence, memos, meeting minutes, press releases, clippings, photographs and 1997 participation forms signed by each participant.

Historical Information

In 1996, as part of the freshman Orientation program, a group interactive activity was held on the athletic fields. RIT students, faculty, staff and alumni attempted to break a Guinness world record for the longest fire bucket brigade. Teaming up with the Henrietta Volunteer Fire Company and Mumford Fire Department along a 2.5 mile course from a fire hydrant on campus, firefighters filled 50 two-gallon buckets from their hoses.

The purpose of the event was to build spirit amongst the incoming freshman class during Orientation week. The event took place in 1996 and 1997, and did not break the record either attempt.
