Collection Scope and Content Note
The Mindy Hopper papers contains photographs, paper records, audiovisual media, awards, and artifacts relating to the Sapphires softball team and the Deaf Women of Rochester organization along with other local and national sports organizations. Uniforms, a softball, and other realia are part of this collection. Of interest relating to Deaf technology is the handmade alarm clock in Series VI, created by Mindy’s father prior to her leaving for college. The Mindy Hopper papers have been arranged into six series. The materials are housed in six archival document boxes, two records cartons, and one flat box.

Biographical Note
Dr. Melinda (“Mindy”) J. Hopper is a retired Senior Lecturer from NTID’s Department of Liberal Studies, where she taught Analytical Reading and Writing, Bridge to College English, and Issues in Mainstreamed Education. Hopper founded the Sapphires softball team in 1986 and played with the team through the 1990s.

Abstract
The Mindy Hopper papers contain educational materials, paper documents, memorabilia and audiovisual materials relating to the Sapphires softball team as well as Deaf women’s basketball and softball. The bulk of the materials are from 1987 through 1999.

Custodial History
The Mindy Hopper papers are a consolidation of RITDSA-0201 - Mindy Hopper collection on Deaf Women’s Athletics, Acc#2023:025 - Mindy Hopper papers, and Acc#2019:008 - Handmade alarm clock for the Deaf. The initial Mindy Hopper papers were acquired by the RIT Archives in November 2023 from Mindy Hopper and were accessioned under Acc#2023:025 and received by the RIT Archives in two boxes (two separate donation drop-offs–the first in December 2021, the second in November 2023).
