Collection Scope and Content Note

The RIT 1993 Time Capsule collection contains campus publications, student information, campus history, RIT ephemera, and much more. Also in this collection are some details about the contents of the 1968 Time Capsule (which were unfortunately destroyed by the elements over time). Additional scope and content information can be found in the Contents List section of this finding aid.

The collection has been arranged into two series. It is housed in one archival document box and one flat storage box.

Historical Note

In 1968, the Rochester Institute of Technology officially moved from its original location in downtown Rochester to the Henrietta Campus. During the campus dedication in October 1968, a time capsule was established; its contents included RIT Catalogs, copies of programs, invitations, a yearbook, photographs, annual reports, pennants, decals, handbooks, coins, articles of clothing and much more.

RIT celebrated its 25th anniversary on the Henrietta campus in 1993. Once again, a time capsule was dedicated; this time, it contained a campus map, admission catalogs, issues of the Reporter, student ID cards, publications, and other ephemera. President Al Simone led the dedication ceremony, with additional remarks by Todd Delaney, then president of the RIT Student Government. The time capsule was not buried and instead the contents were transferred to the RIT Archives.
