Scope and Contents

The William Harris Gallery collection contains a variety of materials relating the the administration and operation of the William Harris Gallery, now administered by the College of Art and Design. This collection contains administrative documents regarding exhibitions. This part of the collection includes materials from both visiting and student artists in preparation for exhibitions, spanning the years 1986-2007. The collection contains some unitentified photographs, and photographs submitted s part of artist portfolios. The collection also contains a number of exhibition booklets and posters, and a folder on the history of the SPAS Gallery.

Biographical / Historical

The William Harris Gallery, located on the third floor of Gannett Hall, is one of many exhibit spaces at RIT. The Gallery works alongside the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) to create exhibits related to photography, photo-based art, and moving media, and is often host to faculty exhibitions and work created by MFA students as part of their visual thesis requirement. Many of the papers in this collection relate to shows at the gallery, which was previously known as the SPAS Gallery, and include signed contracts, condition reports, and promotional materials and slides for the exhibits. Most of the records are related to MFA Thesis and Visiting Artist shows the gallery hosted in the mid and late 1990s.
