Messner, Elmer R.

Elmer Messner collection contains 1,500 political cartoons, mainly in pen and ink; newsprint clippings of Messner's work; and cartoons from other artists collected by or gifted to Messner.

The Millard Van Marter (MV) Atwood collection of political cartoons consists of two original drawings given to Mr. Atwood. One is a political cartoon drawn by Elmer Messner titled Waiting, the other a cartoon drawn by Charles Macauley titled The Homing Pidgeon and dated 1929. Both are signed by the creators. Also included is a copy of Mr. Atwood's obituary from 1941.

Collection of artwork exhibited in the Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) 150th Anniversary Art Show. RIT celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1979. The collection includes works by both students and faculty done in a variety of media.
