Scope and Contents

The portfolio contains three series: the Rosa Parks Portfolio, the Freedom Portfolio and miscellaneous. Series I. Miscellaneous, contains two prints, one is a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the subject of the other is okra.

The Freedom Portfolio, Series II, contains prints that state different freedoms that people have, or should have. There are prints that are in English, while the rest are in Dutch.

Series III. Rosa Parks Portfolio, consists of prints that highlight some of Rosa Park’s most memorable quotes from her work during the civil rights movement.

These prints did not have titles, titles were created when collection was processed.

Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. Biography

Born in 1948 in Louisiana, USA, Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr. is a letterpress printer, papermaker, book artist and activist. Kennedy creates printed items from handset wood and metal type, oil-based inks, and eco-friendly affordable paper and chipboard. His work is known for the strong emotions that it provokes with its bold colors and typography. Many of his posters convey social and political commentary and are inspired by proverbs, sayings, and quotes. Kennedy graduated from Grambling College in Louisiana and worked in Chicago as a systems analyst for over two decades. He shifted gears at mid-life and earned an M.F.A. in 1997 in book arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since then, he has taught workshops and classes internationally, while exhibiting artwork at places like the Museum of Modern Art and the Library of Congress. He runs his printshop, Kennedy Prints! from Detroit, Michigan.
