James and Ruth McCrea collection on Paul Standard
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of correspondence and writings by and about the calligrapher, educator, and author Paul Standard, received by James and Ruth McCrea. Correspondence includes letters sent to the McCreas by Paul and Stella Standard (more than fifty letters, greeting cards, and postcards, 1951-1987); Lili Cassel-Wronker (three letters, 1992); Gudmund Nyström (five letters, one calendar, and one book, 1991-1994); and Paul Standard's great-niece Laura Kellar (one letter, 1992).
Writings include off-prints and an exhibition catalogue (1947-1953) by Paul Standard, and copies of his two books Calligraphy's Flowering, Decay and Restauration (1947), and Arrighi's Running Hand (1979), which are inscribed to James and Ruth McCrea. Also included are a few pieces of ephemera and explanatory letters (1963, 1994) about Standard by James McCrea.
