Historical information on The Seybold Report
John W. Seybold, printing executive and founder of Rocappi (Research on ComputerApplications in the Printing and Publishing Industries) founded the Seybold Report in 1971, along with his son John. Based in Media, PA, the bi-weekly newsletter was published in a simple, advertisement-free format, focusing on phototypesetting devices and computers in the publishing and printing industry. The first issue of the Seybold Report was distributed free of charge in August 1971. In 1981 the company expanded its reach to include conferences and tradeshows under the name “Seybold Seminars.” Prominent vendors such as Adobe, Microsoft and Apple Computers as well as up-and-coming vendors made product announcements at these tradeshows. In 1991 both The Seybold Report and Seybold Seminars was sold, and the company shifted hands a few more times until in 2004 The Report was declared redundant and the offices in Media, PA were closed.
