Douglas Manchee print collection

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: CSC-0032

Scope and Contents

The Douglas Manchee Print Collection includes digital photographic prints made from 2004–2011. The collection is organized into two series. Series I. “Interpreting the Landmarks of Printing History,” (2004) includes 28, 10.1/4 x 15 3/8 inch, color, archival inkjet prints. Douglas Manchee photographed 12 items in the Cary Graphic Arts Collection. These photographs were used to explore the range of photographic digital output capabilities using inkjet and pigment-based printers and a range of substrates. There are sometimes multiple versions of one image to show differences between inkjet ink sets, papers, and color management workflows. The Series also includes labels that accompanied an exhibition curated by Manchee. Series II. “In and Out of Print,” (2011) includes 70, 7 x 9 inch study prints, and 12, 14 x 17.5 inch exhibition quality prints. Both sets are archival inkjet prints. These photographic prints depict the storefronts of bookshops in New York State, with a concentration of shops located in Manhattan, New York City.
