Wells College Book Arts Center Broadside Collection

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: CSC-0132

Scope and Contents

The Wells College Book Arts Center Broadside collection contains materials from 2000 through 2018, with the bulk of the papers dated between 2012 and 2018. This collection contains materials related to Wells College Book Arts Center and Wells College Press including printed materials.

Many of the broadside poems were printed as a part of the Visiting Writer Series that Wells College established in 1973. Each semester this series provides 4 or 5 free events for students that can range from public readings, writing workshops, individual conferences, and participation in discussions and classes from the visiting guest. Every writer of this series has their visit commemorated with a limited-edition, hand-printed broadside by Wells College Press. This collection contains work related to various Victor Hammer Fellows including: Katie Baldwin, Sarah Bryant, Heather R. Buechler, Terrence Chouinard, and Jenna Rodriguez. The Victor Hammer Fellowship was established in 1998 by Robert J. Doherty to bring an emerging book artist to Wells College for two years to teach one or two classes a semester and print broadsides for the Visiting Writer Series. In addition to these responsibilites, the artist also develops curriculum, organizes events, and holds an apprenticeship at the Press and Letterfoundry of Michael and Winifred Bixler.
