The Jerry Kelly collection contains materials given to the Cary Graphic Arts Collection by Jerry Kelly and other patrons. Included materials are, keepsakes, type specimens, small poetry books, exhibition catalogs, book catalogs, announcements, holiday cards, and invitations. Materials range from 1979-2010.

Biographical / Historical
Jerry Kelly is an award winning designer, typographer, book designer, and calligrapher based in New York City. Born in 1955, Kelly worked at the Press of A. Colish (1981-1991) and at Stinehour Press (1991-1999) as a designer and representative for the latter. After the Stinehour Press was sold, Kelly established his own printing firm, Jerry Kelly LLC., in 1999. Since 1978, Kelly has been a partner with the Kelly-Winterton Press, a small letterpress business.
Kelly has earned awards from the Society of Typographers (England), the American Library Association, The Leab Foundation, along with numerous selections in the Letter Arts Review Annual, thirty selections in the prestigious “Fifty Books of the Year” for the American Institute of Graphic Arts, three selections of the Type Director’s Club, among many other selections and awards.
Also a writer, Jerry Kelly has authored several books on calligraphy and typography published by David R. Godine, The Grolier Club, The Typophiles, Rochester Institute of Technology; as well as writing numerous articles for The Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, the American Printing History Association, Fine Print, Letter Arts Review, and others.
He has taught at Parson’s School of Design, Stanford University, the Center for Book Arts, amongst other locations. He graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts from Queens College and has studied calligraphy at the Rochester Institute of Technology under Hermann Zapf. He is currently an honorary member of the Double Crown Club (England), a member of the American Printing History Association (served as Chairman of the Board and Vice President for almost 20 years), along with the Grolier Club (served on several committees), Typophiles (President from 2013-2015), and the Society of Scribes.
