Miscellaneous oversized photos, 11”x14” mostly gelatin silver, some chromogenic prints
Scope and Content Note
This subseries contains photographic material that relates to Cato’s personal photographs as well as familial photographs collected by Cato (not photographed by Cato). Many early gelatin silver prints of Bob Cato and his family were likely previously contained in both the 1935 scrapbook and the Havana scrapbook. Please see the scrapbook files for prints retained in the scrapbooks. Personal snapshots also include Cato with Richard Avedon, “Wolf Trap committee”, and 35mm half frame contact sheets. Note Richard Avedon’s photo of Frederick Ashton as the Wicked Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, New York, October 1949 (box 24, folder 8). For more portraits of Cato, refer to Series II, Subseries A.
