The linocut depicts Abbé L'Epée and two butterflies (two sisters) using sign language to communicate. The drawing depicts two sailboats on the sea intersecting to form a butterfly.

The Collection on Edward Nelson Shirey consists of a gold RIT 1973 class ring with blue stone and fraternity signs and engraved ENS; one certificate to Mr. Shirey for XI Zeta Chapter dated 10/16/1970; a candidate for credential certificate for Mr. Shirey dated 6/10/1972; Mr. Shirey's RIT Bachelor of Science diploma dated 8/3/1973; and a letter to Goddard Space Flight Center dated 7/27/1973 verifying Mr. Shirey received his degree and was qualified to work as a Computer Systems Analyst.
