Scope and Contents

Collection of communication and noise alerting devices for the deaf used by donor John Ratcliffe throughout his life. There is a Braille alphabet and numbers card and a 2011 American Deaf Schools calendar. Added later to the collection is one folder containing three documents: a RAMI Dept. of Evening Instruction certification for Fred A. Ratcliffe (John's father) for completing a course in Camp Cookery in 1936; a quote by Ezra R. Andrews, RAMI's first Board president dated June 5, 1899; and a newsclipping dated 10/31/1935 about Boy Scout leaders taking a course in Home Economics at Mechanics Institute. Also added in 2017, a copy of an article written by John Ratcliffe's wife, Frances who is deaf, about how they first met at RIT, their first date, and their long marriage.
