Sam and Barbara Ray Holcomb NTID memorabilia
Scope and Contents
Collection contains NTID sweatshirts, t-shirts, posters, newsclippings, and documents relating to NTID from the time period the Holcombs both worked at NTID. Sam and Barbara Holcomb were both NTID alumni and both taught American Sign Language (ASL) at NTID.
There are nine shirts in the collection related to various themes: NTID Alumni, RIT sign staff, and a fraternity.
WIthin the documents are The Observing Eye from 1977, a grant proposal for a Deaf culture center from 1990, and exhibition announcements. There is a full set, 32 in all, of ASL and Deaf Culture Lecture series posters from 1988.
Amongst the memorabilia are a RIT 175th anniversary pin, NTID banquet napkins, NTID 40th reunion handkerchiefs, a Chautauqua Salute commemorative handkerchief which tells of deaf lecturer Samuel Greene, and a duffle bag.

Biographical / Historical
Barbara Ray Holcomb is an alumni of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), and made her career there. Starting in 1977 she eventually became an American Sign Language and Interpreter Education associate professor and Faculty/Staff Sign Language Education Program (FSSLEP) Coordinator. In 2003 she was named winner of the Outstanding Service Award by NTID's National Advisory Group. The award is given annually to faculty or staff members who demonstrate exceptional dedication and service to NTID. She was recognized for her commitment to American Sign Language instruction, coordinating the "RITSign" program of non-credit sign language courses, and co-coaching NTID's award-winning College Bowl student team to victory in a recent academic competition.
Sam Holcomb came to NTID as a student in 1974. Sam also became an American Sign Language and Interpreter Education associate professor at NTID. Sam served as faculty advisor to the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and the NTID Student Congress.
