Eileen Biser and Rose Marie Toscano literature anthologies

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: RITDSA-0151

Scope and Contents

These volumes of original works were assembled by NTID professors Eileen Biser, and Rose Marie Toscano to supplement classes for the deaf in Liberal Arts. These professors used numerous college literature anthologies but found they were not always successful for their classes. Over the years they collected a body of stories and other works which their students found interesting and were also rich with the power of language and ideas. The collection represents a diverse selection of authors, varied issues, and a broad range of characters, settings, and styles. Their desire and intention was that these would become a collection for students' personal libraries, so they could read other selections at their leisure.

The four volumes are:

  • Anthology of Poetry
  • Anthology of Drama
  • Anthology of Short Stories, Vol.1
  • Anthology of Short Stories, Vol. 2
  • Dates

    • Creation: 1980-2000

    Historical Information: literature anthologies

"Teaching literature to NTID deaf students at RIT has been a rewarding part of our lives for the past ten years. We have seen students "blossom" in their reading skills, as well as in their abilities to analyze and critique sophisticated literature. The most rewarding part of teaching literature, however, is to witness students' growing desire to read, to fill their minds with new places, people, and ideas, and to make reading an important part of their lives."
