Scope and Contents

Thomas Raco collection of NTID art-related materials contains a report on the NTID Introductory Art Major from the 1970's; three articles about deaf artists; two issues of the Deaf Artists of American newsletter; four NTID publications; and a slide collection which documents an exhibition of the artwork of NTID alumni Ned Behnke. This collection also includes an arangement of thirteen sample artworks by Morris Broderson.

Biographical / Historical

Professor Raco has been at NTID for 42 years in various academic administrative positions including assistant dean in RIT’s College of Fine and Applied Arts, director of the School of Visual Communications, NTID, director of NTID’s Center for Technical Studies and, more recently, vice president for academic and student affairs at RIT Dubai. He earned a doctorate degree from the University of Buffalo in the area of Technical Education and Curriculum Development as well as BFA and MFA degrees from RIT in Illustration and Art Education, respectively. Professor Raco is a fine artist and currently teaches Drawing and Employment Seminar in the department.

Overview

NTID-related materials collected by Thomas Raco, an administrator at NTID for many years. The materials center around art at NTID, art curriculum, artists who attended NTID, an alums show at Dyer Art Center, articles and videotapes about deaf art and artists. Collection also includes sample artwork by deaf artist Morris Broderson.
