NTID Drama Club photographs
Scope and Contents
The NTID Drama Club photographs are comprised of 53 color and black and white photographic prints. There are photographs from various plays performed by the NTID Drama Club in the early 1970’s to the mid-1990s. These plays include, but are not limited to: “The Tempest,” “Threepenny Opera," “Desire,” “Tormented Pathway," “The Grapes of Wrath,” “Mother Courage and her Children,” “Wall," “Romeo and Juliet,” “Taming of the Shrew,” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Other photographic prints depict practices that the NTID Drama Club had rehearsed and formal events, such as award ceremonies and banquets.
Some photographs are identified, including a May 1970 photograph of the NTID Drama Club Leaders.

Biographical / Historical
The NTID Drama Club was founded by Dr. Robert F. Panara in 1969. Dr. Robert F. Panara (1920-2014) was the first deaf professor at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He was an author and poet as well. Panara loved drama and theater throughout his life. He was “a founding member of the National Theatre of the Deaf and has been honored by the World Federation of the Deaf for his contributions to education and culture”, according to his obituary in RIT University News.

According to the NTID Performing Arts website, NTID Performing Arts was established in the Fall of 1974, with the opening of the Institute's new permanent NTID buildings, as an integral part of the Institute's curriculum following the success of the student drama club, NTID Drama Club. Originally named the Experimental Educational Theatre (EET), NTID Performing Arts offers a comprehensive curriculum of theatre courses and produces six productions and one outreach tour per season.
