Biographical / Historical
Matthew S. Moore is a graduate of RIT/NTID. He has launched Deaf Life, Deaf Life Press, DEAF.com, and does much to bring deaf awareness to the hearing community. On November 10, 2012 Indiana School for the Deaf dedicated the Matthew Scott Moore Auditorium in his honor.
A native of Indianapolis, Matthew entered the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) as a preschooler, and immediately began learning American Sign Language. At ISD he began his career in theater, media, and leadership. He graduated in 1977 as valedictorian of his class. His postgraduate career has been a continuation of what he accomplished at IDS--his emphasis on literacy skills as the cornerstone of education, responsibility, and leadership.
At the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), he served as House Manager of the Theater Department, as a resident advisor and he founded and directed the Student Communication Center which produced a newspaper and several TV projects. He graduated in 1983 with a B.S. in Social Work.
In 1984, Moore produced, directed and hosted a pilot magazine-format TV program, Deaf Magazine which aired on Rochester's local ABC affiliate. Since then he has run his own meltimedia company, MSM Productions, Ltd. He is founder and publisher of Deaf Life magazine, and president of Deaf Life Press. He also owns DEAF.com, a portal website.
