Scope and Contents

The collection consists of nine oil paintings by Rochester Institute of Technology artist and professor Frank Argento. The painting are portraits of Susan B. Anthony, John Bausch, William Burroughs, Chester Carlson, Fredrick Douglass, George Eastman, Frank Gannett, Kate Gleason, and B. Thomas Golisano. The series is called Portraits of Rochester, New York Innovators. The artist states that he was "Working from old photographs and writings about their lives, I dramatized my subjects' inner personality, their pensiveness, pride and accomplishments."

Biographical / Historical

Frank Argento is an award winning artist who was born and raised in Rochester. Argento began his art career while attending Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Fine Art. A multidimensional artist, working in film, television, advertising and design, Argento held an associate professorship in the Department of Visual Communications at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf/RIT. He is now Associate Professor Emeritus.

His creativity and talent have earned him more than a dozen awards for excellence in art and design. As a teacher, he shares his passion and enthusiasm for design, photography, and illustration with his students.
