Scope and Contents

The David M. Spindel photographs and posters consist of creations made by the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) alum. Most of the materials focus on baseball memorabilia including a collage of New York Yankees, New York Mets, and Brooklyn Dodgers objects. There are also images that center on single players such as Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Paul Rizzuto, Duke Snider, Roberto Clemente, and Pete Rose. Most items in the collection are signed by Spindel.

The collection also includes a photographic print of John Lennon and a poster that highlights some of Spindel's rebuses.

Biographical / Historical

David Michael Spindel (1941- ) is an American photographer. Born on August 31, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, Spindel graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1964. Upon graduating, he worked for several different photography companies before opening his own commercial photography studio.

Spindel is known for his photographs of baseball memorabilia and his images of John Lennon. He also creates photograph-based rebuses, which are essentially visual representations of words and phrases.

Overview

Creations of David M. Spindel, an American photographer. The collection includes posters and photographs created by Spindel, many of which are signed. Most of the items in the collection focus on baseball memorabilia, although there is an image of John Lennon and a sample of Spindel's rebuses.

Arrangement

The collection is currently unprocessed. Smaller photographs and prints are housed in an oversize folder, while larger items are stored in the Reading room poster drawers.
