Edith Woodward Pool plaque
Scope and Contents
A metal (copper and unknown) plaque hung by the pool at RIT until it was demolished and the new aquatic center was built. The plaque reads: THE EDITH WOODWARD MEMORIAL POOL HONORING EDITH HARTWELL WOODWARD, PHILANTHROPIST AND DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN OF THE ROCHESTER COMMUNITY; FRIEND AND BENEFACTRESS OF ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY DECEMBER 7, 1968

Biographical / Historical
Edith M. Hartwell Woodward was born on August 24, 1879, died in 1955, and was married to Ernest L. Woodward in 1903. It was Ernest's father, Orator Woodward who purchased the formula for Jell-o which he sold under the Genesee Pure Food company label. Ernest became one of the heirs of the Jello Company. Ernest and Edith had one son, Talmadge.They lived in LeRoy, NY. The couple was well known for their philanthropy in the community.
