Scope and Contents

The RIT Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity records contain various folders that encompass the history of Phi Sigma Kappa at RIT ranging from the 1950s to the mid-1990s. A majority of the material documents the chapter's history between 1958-1970. This organization started as the Sigma chapter of Theta Gamma and became Phi Sigma Kappa. This organization became the Upsilon Tetarton chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa.

Included in this collection are bylaws, annual reports, and executive board meeting minutes and induction lists. There are promotional materials about the organization's history and events, as well as speeches from the chapter president, Jim Carey. There is correspondence between active and alumni brothers, faculty, administrators, and sweethearts. There are alumni directories and policies regarding housing regulations and procedures.

Biographical / Historical

Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity was founded nationally on March 15th, 1873. Their philanthropy is the Special Olympics. The fraternity is also known as “Phi Sig”. At RIT, this organization began as the Sigma Chapter of Theta Gamma before becoming recognized at a chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa. The Upsilon Tetarton Chapter of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity was chartered locally at Rochester Institute of Technology on June 5th, 1960. Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity was rechartered at RIT on March 15th, 2014. The fraternity is a part of the Interfraternity Council (IFC).

The RIT Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity records contain by-laws, promotional materials, correspondence, reports, event pamphlets and alumni directories, as well as newsletters of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity chapter at RIT. This collection includes information about the fraternity, ranging from the chartering of the Upsilon Tetarton chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa in 1960 to the early 1990s. A majority of the contents in this collection document RIT's Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity from 1958-1970.
