Scope and Contents
The collection on Greek organizations includes materials related to the individual organizations at RIT’s downtown and Henrietta campuses. This collection examines the history and progression of each organization. Many of the folders contain similar materials; however there are a few unique occurrences.
Box 1 of this collection contains materials regarding all fraternities and sororities alphabetically between Alpha Chi Fraternity and Eta Mu Pi Retailing Fraternity. Included within this box are various organization’s constitutions, correspondences, promotional materials, and meeting minutes. There are membership lists of active and alumni members, as well as alumni newsletters and memorandums. Additionally, there are news clippings about individual organizations and organization-sponsored event flyers.
The Alpha Epsilon Pi folder contains a documentary made in 2008 entitled “AEPi: A Fraternity of Artists” by Brendan Nagle as well as a photo of their 1992 pledge class. The Alpha Phi Omega folder contains an award extended to Dr. Mark Ellingson in 1966 for “having rendered outstanding service to the Institute, Community, and Nation”. The Delta Lambda Epsilon Photography folder contains a library catalogue of terminology as well as lecture announcements and associated pamphlets. The Eta Mu Pi Retailing Fraternity Folder contains a list of charter members from 1962 to 1969 and memorandum of awarded honorary members.
Box 2 of this collection contains materials regarding all fraternities and sororities alphabetically between Gamma Phi Fraternity and Pi Sigma Delta Sorority. Included within this box are various organization’s constitutions, correspondences, promotional materials, and meeting minutes. There are membership lists of active and alumni members, as well as alumni newsletters and memorandums. Additionally, there are news clippings about individual organizations and organization-sponsored event flyers.
The Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity folder contains a pamphlet from 1962 about their annual special event, the Sweetheart Ball. The Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity folder contains Forms 84 and 85 from their National Headquarter office. The Lambda Delta Phi Sorority folder contains a pledge manual from 1962.
The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Folder contains pamphlets from their 6th, 7th, and 8th Annual Benefit Ball and Dinner, which ranged from 1989-1991. The folder for Phi Delta Theta contains a promotional ticket for a fundraiser that promised “Free Snow Removal for One Year” in 1987. The Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society folder contains a petition from 1969 for establishing a chapter here at RIT. The Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity folder contains an executive board list as well as an annual report history from 1980. The Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity folder contains an establishment letter from 1967.
Box 3 of this collection contains materials regarding all fraternities and sororities between Rho Tau Fraternity and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Included within this box are various organization’s constitutions, correspondences, promotional materials, and meeting minutes. There are membership lists of active and alumni members, as well as alumni newsletters and memorandums. Additionally, there are news clippings about individual organizations and organization-sponsored event flyers.
The Sigma Kappa Delta Sorority folder contains two newsletters from the early 1930s. The Sigma Pi Fraternity folder contains a treasurer’s report from the 1966-1967 academic school year. This folder also contains a social calendar as well as a pamphlet from 1971 of their annual special event, the Orchid Ball.
The Tau Beta Pi Fraternity Folder contains a petition from 1970 for the organization to charter a chapter here at RIT. The Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity folder contains a picture of their house that was featured in the 1960 Techmila Yearbook. The Theta Xi Fraternity folder contains three pamphlets from their annual special event, the Sweetheart Ball. These pamphlets and invitations are from 1963, 1966, and 1969. This folder also contains negatives of the header and crest for Theta Xi’s newsletters. The Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority folder contains promotional event cards and awareness cards for “Think Pink!”, a campaign advocating Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.

Historical Information: RIT Greek organizations
Greek organizations have been a part of the RIT campus from the years of the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (RAMI) campus and downtown RIT campus to the present. Currently RIT has over 30 organizations that are overseen by one of the following governing councils: College Panhellenic Council, Inter-fraternity Council, National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, and National Pan-Hellenic Council.
