Biographical / Historical

The RIT Community Service records and photographs chronicle community service projects of RIT, starting with the 1950s and ending with 1984. An example of a project from the 1950s is the Red Cross Community Chest-Drive, where freshmen photography students contributed hundreds of photographs that feature various people benefitting from the Community Chest and were featured in a brochure. The community service projects of the 1980s were initiated by Joanne Humbert, the coordinator for community service projects in the Complementary Education Department of the Student Affairs Division. Notable projects in which enlisted hundreds of volunteers associated with RIT include the Carousel House Renovation of 1983, the Charlotte Beach Playground Revival of 1984, and annual events such as Love Day and the Christmas Tree Cutting.
