Scope and Contents
The Robert H. Johnston papers and photographs contain documents related to Johnston and his professional career at RIT. A large portion of the collection is made up of Johnston's published works and presentations. Several of these works appeared in professional journals. The collection also contains a slide collection of student work from his time as a faculty member.
In addition to the materials from Johnston's time at RIT the collection contains images and articles related to his work on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dr. Johnston helped develop a method Xeroradiography used to decipher the Scrolls.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Robert H. Johnston spent twenty years as a professor and administrator at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He eventually became the Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. In 1990, he was named a Special Assistant to the President of R.I.T. Dr. Johnston was known world wide for developing a system of using digital imaging to decode damaged and ancient texts including the Dead Sea Scrolls.
