Biographical / Historical

The Gunsmithing School was held at RIT in cooperation with the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) from 1983-1991. A summer school program of the College of Fine and Applied Arts was initiated in 1983 and had its peak enrollment in 1986. Students were trained in courses such as knifemaking, basic and intermediate engraving, gun repair, advanced stockmaking, fine tuning of match and varmint rifles, blueing and polishing, pistolsmithing, beginning and advanced law enforcement armorer and others.
