Biographical / Historical
Dorothy Wadsworth served as a member of RIT’s Board of Trustees from 1960-1972. She decided to resign from the Board in 1972 to be appointed as RIT’s Director of Development and to organize an Office of Development. She also managed the 150th Anniversary Campaign in 1979.
Wadsworth was a prominent local political figure for the Republican Party and served many high administrative positions in local health, art, education, and community organizations. Such positions included being the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Neighborhood Health Centers of Monroe County, Vice President of the Board of Managers at the Memorial Art Gallery, and served on the Board of Directors for the Rochester Telephone Corporation. Mrs. Wadsworth was Rochester Telephone Corp.'s first female director but resigned in 1977 when she was nominated to the New York State Commission on Corrections. In addition to these numerous positions, she was appointed as a commissioner for the New York State Special Commission on the Attica Correctional Facility uprising from 1971-1972.
In 1983, Dorothy Wadsworth was named executive director of the Republican Campaign Committee and in 1984 ran for NYS Senate.
