Scope and Contents
The RIT Women's Concerns Group and associated group, Women Together, formed in the late 1970s to network and provide a forum to address issues related to women at RIT, and a variety of issues around women in the workplace, women in higher education, health and sexuality. They also planned workshops and events to raise awareness on campus.
The collection contains meeting minutes dating from 1977- 1979, and point to the concerns of women at the time. The collection also contains information on various events held by the group, including a number of documents related to "Celebrating Ourselves: A Women's Weekend." This two day event held in 1978 featured a lecture on The Dinner Party the famous artwork by well-known feminist artist Judy Chicago as well as an art workshop directed by Chicago. Other educational programming included films, speakouts, lectures, and concurrent workshops on a variety of topics, such as women in business, health and wellness, violence and rape and women's sexuality. Musical entertainment and a mime performance rounded out the weekend. There are also minutes from several meetings of Women Together.

Biographical / Historical
The Women’s Concerns Group was formed in September 1976 by a group of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) women faculty and staff. The group served as an advisory group to individuals and to encourage women’s activities and projects at RIT.
The membership was open to all women faculty and staff at RIT. Student members were admitted in 1977. With the admittance of student members, the larger group became known as RIT Women Together but the Women’s Concerns group continued as a separate group for faculty and staff only.
An important accomplishment for the Women’s Concerns Group was the weekend event, “Celebrating Ourselves: A Women’s Weekend,” held in 1978. The event included film screenings and workshops. The main event was a lecture and workshop by well-known feminist artist Judy Chicago.
