Biographical / Historical

The Women’s Concerns Group was formed in September 1976 by a group of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) women faculty and staff. The group served as an advisory group to individuals and to encourage women’s activities and projects at RIT.

The membership was open to all women faculty and staff at RIT. Student members were admitted in 1977. With the admittance of student members, the larger group became known as RIT Women Together but the Women’s Concerns group continued as a separate group for faculty and staff only.

An important accomplishment for the Women’s Concerns Group was the weekend event, “Celebrating Ourselves: A Women’s Weekend,” held in 1978. The event included film screenings and workshops. The main event was a lecture and workshop by well-known feminist artist Judy Chicago.
