Biographical / Historical
RIT's Zeta Tau local fraternity was founded in 1969. The Alpha chapter was officially recognized by the Student Senate and the Institute on October 22, 1969. The mission of this social fraternity was to strive to promote lasting friendship, to develop a brotherhood of kindred minds, and to further the sister causes of knowledge and citizenship. Zeta Tau was active in community affairs and sponsored "big brother" days with local orphanages. Herb Gray was one of the founding members.
In February of 1972, Zeta Tau became a member of the Xi Upsilon Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TEKE), a national fraternity, through the hard work of the original members who set a goal to build membership and become a national organization. Their adopted motto was "Many men as one Man."
